Dyamond Wood McDermott

I have a full spliced McDermott from 1991 that is due for a refinish. I was wondering if the dyamond wood butt could be lightened up some way, there is no weight pin, by either thinning down the whole butt or replacing, say the last couple of inches with a lighter wood. Does any one have any thoughts on this? Sometime in the past 12-14 years I took the bumper off to take some of the weight out of the back and that helped.

How much do you want to lose? Is the butt end diamond wood? With such little detail, it is hard to answer your question. There could be many options.

Sorry 'bout that. Yes the entire but end and points are dyamond wood, sorta like a sneaky pete, but not very sneaky and goes by the name Roy. :D If taking off the bumper knocked off an ounce I'd like to lose another ounce and have a bumper. So say it's 21oz now with bumper I'd like 19+/- with a bumper.

Where did you get that avatar of God? I was picturing something more Biblical. :)

Can you tell if the butt is cored? It would almost have to be.... You could drop some weight for sure if it's uncored. 2 ounces is quite a bit though. You may have to do a joint pin swap as well.

Too much

I'd say I'll just send it back to McDermott and get the regular refinish. Then start scouring for a new playing cue. Someone told me the cue retailed for 165 back in the day, I'd hate to spend too much on a cheap cue when I can probably still find some more of them out there.

Thanks Sheldon

I didn't recognize the vice pres without his pheasant hunting or flyfishing duds on. ;)
