Dying a cork wrap

Good morning Cuemakers,

Could someone explain to me the proper way to dye a cork wrap (insofar as product?) I installed one for giggles on my jump cue and really like it. However, the natural cork color seems to take away from the overall look of the cue IMHO. I would like to dye it black to match the points. Also, would one seal a cork wrap with something like neutral shoe polish or would you leave a dyed cork wrap unsealed? I appreciate your time in answering.

Regards,

Natural cork will take a dye pretty well. Neutral shoe polish will give you a little seal. Shaft sealer also works and some waxes will also burnish onto cork nicely.

Sand the wrap with 320 or 400 grit to remove any oil that may have transferred from your hands.Tape off the ends and apply a leather dye
with a foam brush.Let the cork dry, sand with 600 grit to make it smooth
again.Apply a wax or sealer and burnish and it's finished. This is the way
do it.Hope this helps.

Best Wishes,

Steve
