Hi all,

I've not really been active on the forums long but noticed this interesting topic.

I recently picked up a NITRO carbon shaft from Daz and have finally just started getting around to shooting with it so here's my honest feedback so far...

SHAFT - NITRO 11.9mm with How tip
Butt - Meucci PP4

First thing I noticed was that the joint doesn't quite fit and the shaft overhangs very slightly over the butt joint. This is not a fault of the shaft but moreover an annoying quirk of Meucci. I previously had a 97-12 and that also was a completely different diameter to the PP4.

Anyway, the first thing I noticed using the Carbon shaft was that it totally changed the balance of my cue. It could have been a more psychological factor but my cue definitely felt a touch lighter than normal although it was still the same weight by measure, around 19oz.

This took me a while to get used to, especially on long straight shots.

I don't wear a glove and didn't notice any problems with the smoothness on the stroke. Carbon fiber can mark and blemish up quite easily from finger marks and chalk though so that may annoy some people when cueing up a shot maybe.

The shaft hits very pure but for those who say using Carbon is a cheat stick I would disagree totally with that. I feel for now I have to deliver some strokes / shots with careful respect otherwise it can make you look silly. Some of this will be down to not being used to the deflection difference between my previous Z shaft.

The tip is a how tip which is interesting. The composition of it includes a black plastic pad which is a bit softer than the rest of the tip. I found the tip played pretty hard and I've had to round it off a bit more than usual due to miscuing some long draw shots. My normal choice of tip tends to be a kamui hard or medium. The how tip holds chalk well but I did have to press it on a bit firmer than usual until the tip wears in some more.

When you strike a ball well with this shaft it definitely hits exceptionally pure. With good stroke control it's easy to draw the cue ball back, more so than with my Z shaft.

I also found I was able to play very thin cut shot easier than with the Z shaft.

Overall, I'm impressed by the shaft and will definitely be using it from now on.

I'll see how the how tip goes but still may consider swapping it to a kamui med at some point perhaps.

If you're in the market for a new shaft this could be worth a look for you.

Just remember to respect the shot and don't get lazy with it.

If anyone is interested to see how it plays check out the latest video on my YouTube channel darkSIDEpool.

I was attacking the notorious rainbow drill.

I'd put the direct link on here to the video but don't want violate any forum rules.

Feel free to ask me any questions.
