Ebay selling question

I am in the process of selling a cue (Helmstetter RCH/VIP) on ebay and the current bidder has no feedback. This is only the second cue that I sell on ebay and the first one (Pechauer) went smothly. Howerver, this one has me a little worried because this person has no feedback and the account was opened yesterday.

I want to give the person the benefit of the doubt and assume that his intentions are good, but at the same time I don't want to get screwed.

Does anyone have some advice as to what to do in order to insure that this transaction goes smoothly?

Thanks,
Nelson

Best of luck on your auction.

I know I was scrutinized pretty hard when I bought my first cue on E-bay......matter of fact, the cue was what caused me to open the account to begin with! Could be the same from your buyer.

I would contact him/her via e-mail, and get a feel for whether or not they're serious. If the person is a stand-up buyer...then they should understand your concerns, and qualm any fears you may have.

Conversely, if you get a bad feeling about 'em, you can always cancel their bid.

Hope it works out well for ya. My first cue buy was one of the better ones I can recall.....and you stand to make a repeat customer out of yours.

Be good,

Mark

I have sent a message to the bidder stating the following: that I noticed they had no feedback and was wondering if they are serious about buying.

I hope they do not take it in a bad way.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'll check back later, going to play me some one pocket now.

Thanks again,
Nelson

Just make sure the money clears before you send the cue, then it doesn't matter if the buyer has o or 500 feedback.

There is an option when you sell to block certain buyers from bidding, one of them is not a zero feedback however.

To add buyer requirements to your listings:

1. In My eBay, under the My Account column, click the "Preferences" link.

2. In the Seller Preferences section, click the “Edit” link. The Buyer Requirements page opens.

3. Select your buyer requirements. These include blocking buyers who:

*Are registered in countries to which you don't ship
*Have a negative feedback score
*Have received Unpaid Item strikes
*Are currently winning or have bought '1-100' of your items in the last 10 days
*Do not have a PayPal account

4. Click the Submit button to save your requirements.

I agree...Give the "newbie'' the benefit of the doubt. If he/she fails to pay, Ebay allows you a "Second Chance" offer to the next highest bidder.

tip on buyers

I have done over 200 tiems on ebay, buying and selling, and never knew about blocking buyers, thanks for that tip. I usually list in my description though, feedback less than 10, contact me before bidding.

thanks again for the tip

0 feedback for a buyer is not as big a deal as a seller with 0 feedback. It might take them a few extra days to pay though because they have to set up a paypal account. I block buyers with a negative feedback. If they do not pay you can get your fees back.

Thanks for the input. I have sent the person an invoice, but have not heard back. How many days should I give them?

Thanks

You can file a non paying bidder on them after 7 days if you do not hear from them.

The buyer paid through Paypal, but the transaction is still not completed. According to Paypal it should be completed by Wed. I hope it's not charged back or anything like that after I ship. I guess this is why I have always preferred a US postal money order.

I gotta agree with the Doc! I have over 1300 feedback, 100% positive. But as a Seller, I do not allow New Users to bid without contacting me first. If they do anyways, I email them and let them know that only PayPal will be accepted, no mailed payments, and payment must be made within 24 hours. If they respond and agree within 24 hours of the email, I don't cancel their bid. Otherwise, I cancel them and add them to my Blocked Bidder List, which is different from the preferences that Jeff wrote about.

Any Power Seller will tell you - 90% of all problems and wrongfully placed Negative Feedback comes from new users.

Granted, New Users are the future of Ebay, but ya gotta protect yourself. As long as they're responsive and email b4 they bid, or quickly respond to my email - no problemo.

But I disagree with Duke - "wait until you have a problem and then deal with it" - to paraphrase. Going that route, you wait 7+ days for payment, then file a NPB, then wait 7 more days, then recoup fees and pray the 2nd highest bidder still wants it, and that you want to accept their non-winning bid amount??  No. Be proactive with a little prudence and due diligence and you can prevent the problem from ever happening.

In your case, Taiko, sounds like you're fine! Your Buyer paid with a PayPal "E-Check", and they take 3-4 days to clear. As long as the cue is "as described", you have almost a zero chance of a chargeback. Just DON'T SHIP until PayPal notifies you that the E-Check has cleared, then make sure you login and "accept" the payment - then ship the cue.

Make sure that you ship with insurance and delivery confirmation. Also now that the listing has ended you can request the individual's phone #. Maybe a phone call would alliviate some of your fears.

The buyer probably doesn't have a creditcard (with any money left on it) so he's used his bank account instead. The fact that it takes a few days even though he probably made the transfer electronically is due to paypal wanting to take the interest for a couple of days. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think he can stop the payment now, he definitely can't just book it back after the transfer is complete. He can off course file a complaint with paypal afterwards, so make sure you save the shipping info.
