ebony forearm question??

Hi,

I'm am currently planning on having a local cuemaker make me a cue with an ebony (gabon) forearm (not cored), with curly koa handle, phenolic joint. He says he will use a aluminum pin between the forearm and handle to keep the weight down. He also feels that the cue will be slightly forward balanced but not overly so.

Does all of this make sense to the cuemakers among you? Are there any other woods that might make for a better forearm w/ Koa? Will the hit be different with ebony vs. some other wood.

I'm 6' tall and don't want a cue that balances further than 19 inches from the butt. I would like it to weight between 19 and 19.5 oz.

Any suggestions or opinions are appreciated!
Regards,

Doug

I would worry more about the Koa being cored, depending on how "curly" it is.
The cue should be just fine, and within your specs depending mainly on the joint pin/type of joint.

My cue with an ebony forearm feels front weighted. But, that's the way I prefer since I use an open bridge mostly. As to warp (and runout), nothing has been noticed between it and the BEM butt so far and I've owned the stick for two years so far.
