equivalent of a 100 ball run in other sports

I was just wondering how everybody compared a 100 ball run in straight pool to say, bowling a 300 , shooting a round of par golf, running a marathon, or any other sports milestones/achievements you can think of.

I have nothing to base this on other than opinion - so take it for what it's worth. I'd put someone who could consistently run 100 balls about equal to a scratch (0 handicap) golfer.

I think this is a really interesting question. As a former low handicap (~5-6) golfer, I would say that it is probably more difficult for any given person to run 100 than to shoot par. However, since there are so many more avid golfers than pool players (based on my experience anyway), it may be tough to compare. All I know is that I've played pool and golf both for ~ 12 years, and I've shot close to or under par many times, but my high run at straights is only in the low 40's. In golf, it's not too difficult to rebound/recover from one mistake...in straights, if you make one big mistake, kiss your run goodbye:)

Cool question, that's right up my alley!...get it<<<:D....anyway. I'm one of those people that really excells in non-team sports like these....

I have bowled 3 300 games in my life while working at Devon Lanes in Pennsylvania back in high school. All were during gambling sessions. The thing you need to remember about bowling lanes is they can "oil in a block" that will help a right or lefthander, depending on the block, to keep the ball in the pocket longer. Thus making it easier to throw strikes. NO!.... I didn't do that when those guys were coming in to take my money!:D Hardest thing to do in bowling is pick the right ball for the lane conition IMO.

next, golfing...I learned to play at Merion Cricket club in Philly where my Uncle Clyde McKown was caddy master. That place was SAWEET! so much history there!....and some snobby people, but back to the subject. Shooting par I think most depends on the course. In high school I was a 4 handicap, and no I never shot anything near par at Merion, but I have shot par or better maybe 8 times in my life. Most of those rounds were down here in Florida where the courses seem easier to me. Not many trees, or big hills, and I don't really mind the water.

Running 100!.....To me is the most difficult by far. I've done it 3 times, and I'm trying everyday to do it again!....

So, my list would be, 1 being hardest...

1. running 100
2. shooting par
3. rolling a 300

Sounds like a mathematical question

I think you need to find comparable numbers in each sport. If only 1/1000 people do a particular thing. or 1/10,000 then its easier to find the comparisons. I know a lot of good pool players that have never run 100 balls. But I know a couple mediocre bowlers that have bowled 300 games. Out of long distance runners I think those megamarathons are a better guage. They are running 50 miles and more now in those races. Now THATS a race! How many casual joggers are going to run that distance non-stop?

Comparison

I think a better comparison to Golf would be consecutive holes shot
without a bogie, like 36-50 holes, that way 1 mistake would ruin the
record like in Pool.

Youre right Scott..Much better comparison than to a marathon. I wonder what Tiger's record is for most holes without a bogey. I think I heard it mentioned during the Masters last year. With bowling you only have to throw 12 balls? Is that right? I just see too many names up on the wall (for 300 games) at the local alley to think that it is rare. I personally have NEVER seen a player in my room run 100 in front of me. I think the highest is 76 I have seen. It is all apples and oranges.
