As cue-makers, are you finding some types of leather wraps becoming more SCARCE, completely unavailable or just priced way too high to use except for special orders?
I am curious because of my recent experience looking for a special type leather wrap. I could find lots of wraps to consider but when it came down to what I wanted for my cue, it became a frustrating search until another Azer came to my rescue.
What I was looking for was a high quality elephant leather wrap in a light or medium gray. Over the years, I had seen lots of cues with elephant leather and basically, I never gave this a second thought since my other cues use Cortland Linen #9 as wraps but it wasn't a good fit with the cue design underway. So that's how I settled upon the elephant leather wrap in a lighter shade of gray for my cue and I thought it would be easy.
Ha....what a naive person I was......I was becoming a little worried I was SOL. and have to come up with a different wrap until Martin Bick saved my bacon and my cue-maker now has what I hoping to find. From what I gather, this type leather wrap (elephant)....and forget about color......is becoming harder to acquire. So I am wondering if this might also apply to other types of exotic leather pool cue wraps as well? I figured the people who make cues would be the best section to ask and at the same time, hopefully circumvent the in-fighting that occurs on the Main Forum with some topics.
Thanks for your comments.
