Ferrule length

Does the length of the ferrule affect the way a shaft plays? Would a shaft with 1 inch ivory ferrule have more deflection compared to a shaft with 3/4 inch ivory ferrule?
Are there any advantages/disadvantages of having a long/short ferrule? Thanks for your help!

the hardness of the ferrule will determine the deflection. if you're playing with an ivory ferrule, then you will have to deal with deflection no matter what it's length. if you are going for less deflection you should switch to a soft plastic.

i think the length of the ferrule is purely cosmetic. but the longer the ferrule, the longer the tenon. so if there's more tenon, then there's less "feel" of the hit, as there would be more stuff(ferrule) between the hit and the shaft.
