Finding a game?

I often go to the hall to practice. I play a lot of straight pool as well so matches are tough to come by, especially even ones. But the better players have a lot to teach and they don't want to play for $ it seems. Also you can meet some nice people too, I spent more time talking with guys and watching a bit of action the other day than I did practicing! But do frequent the local hall and you'll meet some people that will play a match just to play.
 
Well, I was asked to join a team to play in a 9 ball APA league. I want to do it so I can play some pool, but after reading all the horror stories about APA I'm hesitant. What say you guys?

I say give it a try. It's like anything in that when people don't win they'll try to find any excuse("he's a sandbagger" or "i didn't want to win anyways). You'll get to meet other people and go to different spots that may be good to find games. Also, it will give you something to measure your game. If you decide you don't like it, you can always quit it. APA is how I started playing pool almost 9 years ago.

Thanks for the thoughts Banks, it's with my brother so it should be fun. He assured me that the other players were in it for entertainment and that should keep the nonsense to a minimum I'd hope.
