i will be the first to admit that feel or hit is subjective. what works for one person may not work for another. try as i might, i just dont like an ld shaft.
i have a predator with a 314/2, a mcdermott with an i2 and another mcdermott with a g core. i just dont play my best with any of those cues.i went thriugh 4 tips on the predator before i found the hit was most tolerable with a tiger emerald on it. never bothered to change the tips on the 2 mc dermotts.
my main player now is a phillipi with a standard maple shaft. i changed the tip on it 3 times until i settled on a moori medium.
just for the heck of it i left my phillipi at home this afternoon and took my g core mcdermott to scotch doubles league. i shot lousy. i left there and went to my double jeapordy league to play. my girlfriend plays that league with me and it just so happened she brought her son with her who had pulled my old viking outa the closet to play with. i let him play with it at home but he brought to practice on the 9 footers while she and i played league.
the viking was my main player 8 years ago until i got a meucci gambler. i then put a buffalo tip on it and used it as a breaker for 3 or 4 years. never shot with it with the buffalo tip on it, just for breaking.
i told him to give me the viking and take the mcdermott cause i was not shooting worth a darn with it. i will be damn if i didnt shoot better with that viking than i have shot in a long time.
i have always preferred med to soft tips in a dime shape with a lot of leather on them. the biffalo tip was flat and so short that i did not want to shape it for fear of scratching the ferule.
i just dont understand it. i am going to continue shooting with this viking to see if tonight was a fluke or if this heavy cue with a flat hard tip is indeed the best combination for me.
if it is that high dollar custom is going into the closet in its place
