Guy,s i don,t know if this has been brought up but i use a clearcoat that dry,s in 5 to 10 second,s under uv light. It,s very durable and is easy to apply for a sealer i,am useing a product from axon called wood insulator it,s like a epoxy but it,s not it,s 2 part and you spray it on 2 very light coat,s just enough to seal the pour,s the company say,s let it set 30 minute,s and spray over it but i wait 24 hour,s and it work,s awesome!!!! DICKIE told me about it and i,am glad he did . but on the finish i use a different brand than most people it,s made by van technology,s the number is 583a-3 we had made for our cue,s it has a little more flex and it will take a licking. some people have said that when they us these uv curable clear coat,s they can,t seem to buff them up to has high a shine as car clear but i have come up with a way to do it and it only takes about 10 to 15 minute,s to do. i have 4 flannel domet 10 inch buffing wheels mounted on a piece of all thread with bearing,s and pulley,s with a half horse motor i turn them at 2500 rpm and i use a hard block wax no paste i set the cue on there with the shaft on the cue and start buffing letting the cue weight ride don,t push at all. it work,s and shines like grazy. listening to some of these guy,s that are having trouble i,ve found some of them go clear down to 12000 grit sand paper that,s to slick for the wheels to grab ahold of the finish to start buffing there for it takes for ever to start to buff up. we go down to 2000 sanding long way,s after each grit and we have found lately if you stop at 1500 it buff,s up even quicker . sanding long way,s do,s away with any machine scratch,s so you don,t need to go clear down to 12000 grit. also use odorless mineral sprit,s to wet sand instead of water, water has small particles that scratch the finish and it has no lubricating properties and it will get the finish hot but mineral sprit,s has lubricating propertie,s and run,s cooler and it won,t scratch the cue. i will say stay away from epoxy,s that are uv light curable because they go on very nice and are durable put what people don,t know is it will turn yellow over time but if your redoing a old shon are southwest and you want that old yellow lacquer look use it and in about 6 month,s it will look just like the old lacquer and will continue to yellow from there on darkness even makes it worse. MADISON BOB PS.try the buffing wheel,s on auto clear it work,s really great on it to giving a hell of a shine in a few minutes.
