Fixing Lose Wrap

I have a customer who purchased a new cue to replace his old Players cue. He asked me to clean up the old cue. It has sentimental value to him. I replaced the ferrule and tip, cleaned the shaft, and put a new butt cap on. Normally I would charge more for this than a new Players would cost him. So, when he asked about the wrap I discouraged re-wrapping it. About a third of the wrap is not glued. I am considering a diluted solution of white glue but I have never tried it before.

Is there a simple way to stick the wrap back in place without re-wrapping?

Thanks.

Not without it looking like dogshit...I'd just rewrap it for the guy...

Same here. You usually can re-wrap quicker than trying to repair.

A few weeks ago a guy had an old cue with Cortland that was pretty dark brown from dirt. He wanted it cleaned which I did but while trying to press it it shifted around as the glue had all dried out. I got the end loose and pulled it all off and re wrapped using the same linen. All together it probably took 2 1/2 hrs. instead of 20 minutes.

I have had several cues do that, I just mix a little elmers with enough water to loosen it up a bit, slather the whole wrap, wipe it off with a damp cloth and lightly repress it. It will look fine and solve the problem. Plus it aint a real high end cue, why waste any more money if you dont need to. what can you loose, ten minutes and 38 cents?

I have tried to repair a few wraps that had come loose and in all cases ended up not pleased with the result.
It could be my lack of skill and knowledge to get it looking right but for now stripping it off and re-wrapping the cue with new linen is my best method of fixing them.

Thanks for all the input.

I diluted Elmer's and applied a coat to the wrap. I pressed it, wiped it off, and let it dry. Then I a put a very light coat of wax on and buffed it. It looks much better, is tight, and there are none of the gaps that were visible before. Took about ten minutes. I realize that it probably will not hold up to regular use but he does not intend to use it. He just wants it to look good again.
