Forfeits at the USBTC

I was just checking the draw sheets and noticed a really large number of forfeits, even in the later stages of the brackets. Anyone know what the deal is? Are there not set match times? Seems very strange to me considering the caliber of players that are doing it....Stan T, Amar K, etc.

Stan lost track of time. Amar chose to forfeit.

Why would he choose for forfeit though? There had to be some reason.

(My reply is that some of it is answer to your question and then a greater part of the original posters.)

I imagine the reasons could be endless.

didn't feel good - sick
didn't feel he had a chance from where he was
didn't feel he had a chance against whoever he was playing
couldn't stand the guy that he was supposed to play
felt he was way out of stroke and didn't want to have people see that
had more important business to attend to.. personal or business
was too tired and just wanted to get some sleep
had a gambling game then
had a gambling game later and wanted some sleep
left the tournament all together for whatever reason
although Bill eluded to that he was distinguishing between late and forfeit
maybe he was late
maybe there was a really great show on tv he wanted to watch
maybe his friends wanted to go do something else and he decided to go with them

I mean all of those are possible, keeping in mind I did try to inject a few that leaned towards the humorous side:D

I looked thru all 4 brackets and found about 10 forfeits. I guess you would need to keep in mind that there's 189 entries and that there was a WorldPPA 9-Ball event going on at the same time. With the other event, maybe some of them were doing better or felt that because it was a handicapped format, they knew they would have a better chance. On the other, you got about 6% of the total entries that forfeited. That doesn't sound high to me, but then I haven't been to a lot of tournaments for quite awhile.

Bill described a couple of them, I see Scott Frost did. With him I would go with one of 3 things (missed it or late, got a gambling game, or had one and slept in, was in the casino and didn't want to leave). I know he did have a gambling game with the guy that has the best life you could imagine.... Mr. John Henderson who is, shall we say, leans a little to the northern side of middle age:smile:, but is in good health, still hitting the balls fairly well, has a strong love for the game, worked a full time job his whole life and played pool too and now is retired comfortably, so he can travel around to play, and most of all is a gentleman to gamble with and has a huge heart and plenty of gamble.

hmmm... was that the longest sentence ever, or did that FAIL miserably for a sentence?:D

So that's about 3 pros that did. there were several that forfeited their first match, 3 of them to be exact, if you notice, they also forfeited their next match too, so that means they didn't even show up or didn't play at all. That adds up to 6 of the 10. So got 6 there, 3 described above and 1 other.

now it doesn't seem to be very many, does it? 3 people didn't show up, 4 people out of 189, forfeited due to a variety of other reasons.

Sorry... somehow I was in a investigative or inquisitive mood, and decided to look into out of curiousity. So my post is not to be taken as trying to discredit your question, but more of a "i'm curious about that, let me break it down"

"Investigator Red"

I know a couple of people who ended up with forfeits because they were waiting on an opponent to finish a match, and weren't at the table immediately when the other guy finally showed up (although one of those isn't actually showing as a forfeit on the brackets).

I was shakeing for my first match.(alcoholic) but i did not forfeit.or make a ball for that matter. I had a blast at this tournement. didn't play well but met some great players and AZers:thumbup:
