FS: Bowling alley shafts (ltd qty)

I get those spirals on some shafts but not others. Maybe some are harder? I thought it had something to do with my feed dragging or vibrating in that spot or had the lathe turning too quickly. I guess I'll be changing bits sooner than I thought. How long do router bits last when cutting mostly maple, anyway?

Well, there is plenty of good bits out there. Anything from Freud to Whiteside 4 to 6 wing. Stick with what works.

I had a problem with "barber poling" or spirals as you refer to them.

I was advised here on the forum to slow my lathe down to 400-600 rpm. As the shaft gets thinner it can start to whip and the pressure, as small as it is from the cutting tool, accentuates that.

No more spirals (barber poles) for me.

My 2 cents,

Gary
