Well I am not sure if this has been discussed in the past over here, but I am curious as to why so many cue makers are hesitant to make cues with Full Splices (w/ veneers). I understand that it cost more, but I am not talking about the cue makers that have become mass producers. I am talking about the cue makers that charge the $1000.00+ for a cue I know of two maybe three cue makers that make there cues with Full Splices, but the waiting list seems to be a couple of years.

the reason is the time it takes. making full splice cues is very time consuming, and very expensive, and most cue makers, feel most players can't tell the difference or really care. for your info if you buy the blue book of pool cues 3rd. edition, my friend from new york is making full splice cues. he will be making roughly 8 a year, and will charge somewhere in the area of $1,800. you can not order anything custom what-so-ever, and the weight and balance is what you get. the result? a cue that hits very, very solid! a lot of old timers love this type of hit. i personally do not, i find it too stiff, without any warmth, or natural flex, but hey, to each his own. you'll find him in the book under joeseph full splice cues of bayside n.y.

Bernie,

Thanks...I live in the Tri state area, but have not heard of your firend. I am sure he makes solid cues, but Hercek doesn't even charge 1800 for a simple four point cue if you order directly from him (granted you are waiting 5 yrs). Do you have any picks of Joseph's cues that you could post. I would really like to see his quality of work.

I just thought I'd put my 2 cents in here. I'm not into shameless plugs but since the topic popped up...I'm introducing "The Modern Day Full Splice" at the Hopkins show. My full splice cues with veneer start at $950. I'm also offering butterfly full splices with veneer ($850) and double splices. Booth #77. My website is www.bearcues.com. I'll have some literature at the booth explaining some history behind the full splice and it's general construction if anyone is interested. If not just stop by to say hello. Any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Oh great, just what we needed, another boring ass cue maker thread. Why don't you guys go run an ad and get the hell off this board and let people talk pool and go peddle your she yit some where else. Peddle your stuff at shows, this is not a board for people to peddle cues and repair peoples chat box. Go over to CCB and compare the topics there, then come back and read what you have done to this board, totally made it so friggin stupid, nobody is even trying to post any more. Who cares how many friggin splices you put in your cue. Put that in your brochure, not on this board.

My understanding is that this is the primary forum area. For discussions about anything pool related. Full splice construction topics are certainly pool related and interesting to me and many others. Just because Fast Larry is not interested in a subject does not mean that everyone else feels the same.

The ingenius Burton Spain was fascinated by cue splices and full splice methods. He spent a great deal of his life experimenting with splicing techniques and would have certainly been interested in this thread. The culmination of his life's work resulted in a superior splice, a full splice technique that is still in use today by Joel Hercek. If I'm not mistaken there is also a cuemaker in New York named Pete Karella that for the most part makes full spliced rosewood cues. I've hit balls with these types of cues and to me, they often hit better than their short spliced cousins.

In my opinion, you can't get a better hit than a full-spliced cue with an ivory ferrule.

Yeah Kid isn't it just awful how misunderstood Fast Larry is? Oh yeah and he's just such a pleasant guy that people like you and me come on here just to attack him.LOL. I mean why would anyone start a thread about cue making just to bait Larry and get him all riled up? LMAO!!!! The nerve of us non champions and non cue makers that might want to learn something besides belittling and criticizing people. B

sorry, i don't have pics, but like i said, if you buy the blue book of pool cues the 3rd. edition (the new one) he's in there under joeseph full splice cues and repairs. he does great work. jeanette lee said to him after he spent 45 mins, treating and smoothing her shaft, "that's the best job ever"

Full Splices

Herman Rambo (notable Cue Maker At The Least) Knew The Value Of The Full Splice With Veneers As The Best "working-cue" Early On. Burton Spain (member Of The Mensa Society & Pioneer Of Scientifically Improving The Concept Of The Full Splice With Veneers) Made The Best Full Splice Blanks Of His Day, Far Exceeding The Playability Of The Brunswick Titlist Blanks. Rambo Purchased Spain Blanks For His Cues Because They Were Better. George Balabushka (notable Cue Maker At The Least Also) Knew A Long Time Ago The Full Splice Blank With Veneers And Maple Only Forearms Made The Best "working-cues". He Also Purchased Blanks From Spain. These Three Names In Billiard History And What They Knew, Is Difficult For Anyone To Dispute. .... Res Ipsa Loquitur (the Thing Speaks For Itself). THERE ARE NOT MANY CUE MAKERS DEDICATED TO THE FULL SPLICE TODAY BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY AND TIME CONSTRAINTS, BUT I BELIEVE MARK BEAR (MARK BEAR CUES) IS AHEAD OF THE GAME WITH HIS FULL SPLICED WITH VENEERS CUES. HE HAS TAKEN THE FULL SPLICE TO A HIGHER LEVEL.
