It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that ping.
There's an unsanctioned men's 9B league in town with a couple of odd rules. It does not allow jump cues (whatever I get it, saves cloth) and you must call the 9. Every other form of slop is allowed, but 9 must always be called... be it combo/carom early or at the end of the rack. I know, that's not 9B and they might as well be playing 10B if they can't stand the thought of slop. 9B on break counts for a win and you don't have to call it.
It got a laugh on a night I subbed. This NEVER happens but on first game I made the 9 on the break. Next game I won lag, broke/made wing ball. 1B was a pocket hanger so I shot it in. 2B was 3-4" off the rail in a bad spot with no pocket and banks were closed. 2B was near the 9, which was about 1.5 diamonds from the corner pocket and 2" off the rail. 2B had a ball clustered on it's side near the side pocket so no 2-9 combo was there either. Opponent thought I had no shot. I played shape for the carom and I called the 9 on a carom off the 2 and got to see a drunk opponent go outside and punch a wall 5 times while yelling obscenities. He was at least kind enough to have to confirm with my team and his team that I actually called the 9. He wanted one of them to argue in his favor. Good thing Icalled the 9, loud enough to make sure his team mates heard me. Fun times!
