GC III rail refinish?

have a GC III i am starting to refinish for my basement. the rails are rosewood and look decent, however there are a few dings that are star like cracks that I would like to repair. can the finish on the rails be striped. it seems pretty hard and not sure if it is a baked on finish of sorts.

The rails are rosewood covered FORMICA! They can not be refinished like the rest of the table. We have stripped off the laminate and replaced but this is not a do it yourself job.
