I have the GCIII TE with the high gloss black finish. Is there anything out there that would buff the minor scratches out of the rails? I have tried light auto buffing compounds that did nothing. I don't want to get real aggressive without knowing what I am doing.

There is nothing to be done really. The only option would be to replace the formica $$$$. If you "buff" any more than a lil shine, you likely will be "polishing" off the finish that is still there. IMO that is not a "players" type of finish and more for something that does not get touched, just like the name Piano....Pianos, the only thing that gets touched are the keys, good application, not sure how brunswick thought this was a good idea for a Commercial Pool table that is GOING to get action...
Good luck to you

Thanks Trent. What you say makes lots of sense, although it is a good looking table. The top of the rails are not real bad, but I was just wanting that mirror finish back. I thought that a bit of compound would work much like it does on a car finish but it doesn't.

I don't think they were meant to be bright and shiny when brand new. Weren't they supposed to be more of a matte black finish?
Piano finish tables were very bright and shiny. I just did a GC4 not too long ago and I had some new old stock rails that had it. I did the body of the table in satin black and the powder coating is Alien Silver from Prismatic Powders. New Brunswick Superspeed Cushions, new drop pockets and the last cut of Simonis T-blue we had discovered in the shop! It came out pretty sharp IMO. The owner of the table is very meticulous and his kids only play on it when they all do as a family. It is not a "toy" in their household and I appreciate that. It like likely look nice for a long time. NW Iowa, I went through a couple of winter storms to get it out there, it was a 2 table trip. Good times.

P.s. The head apron is also a reproduction, we made it in my friends shop. Glued up the poplar ourselves and it was a very positive experience.

Trent, you did a spectacular job on that table. You are definately a talented person. The GCII TE that I have is Earl's million dollar table that I aquired from CJ. Because of that I don't really want to refinish the table, just thought that I could shine it up a bit. There is no information online about applying the piano finish, just lots of info on maintaining the finish. I'm not sure if the finish is poly or what.

We thank you very, very much for the compliment!! I work hard on every single project I take on. It is a passion and sometimes a curse. Loving it makes me keep doing it! Just being more and more particular about the jobs I take on these days. I just celebrated 10 years in the business earlier this month. That is a link to most of my restoration work, I have been slacking a lil on uploading the last year or so as albums, but they are still posted in my feed. Thanks again for the compliment!! Have a great Sunday and God Bless.

That's some quality work that you have done over the years. I really love the Anniversary model, great design.
Thank you for your kind words. I have been blessed to have restored about 20 or so. Working on one now and actually just picked a 9', middle of last month. It has been a while since I found one that was in the right condition and for the right $$$. It is an honor and pleasure to restore them!

There is a glaring difference between an actual "panio black" finish and what you'll find on a pool table.

Panio black has depth created by a flawless base coat of black and ridiculous layers of clear coat. It should almost look like you could reach your hand into it.

Only way you're getting a panio black finish on a pool table is to strip it down and start from scratch. There's no level of buffing that can fix the base coat

The manufacturer's sticker calls the finish "High Tech Black". The skirt aprons are in excellent shape and it's almost like looking into a mirror with the lights turned off. They have a deep shine on them.
