I would probably try to cut the eight up into the 9 with a ton of left spin. Hopefull get two cracks at the nine. lol Maybe two rail bank the 8 into the 9, or just to the end rail to play safe.

Bank the 8 in the side and then your out. Its on a Bert Kinister tape. Its in 8-9ball banks that I got from Pat. Great video. Shows alot of banks that come up in 8-9ball and other games.

c'mon guys.........get a little creative.........you might have to have somewhat of a stroke to make this shot though. :D

Everything is in place to play the cue ball off the 8, travel up table and pocket the 9 hanging in the corner.

As vapoolplayer mentioned "you might have to have somewhat of a stroke to make this shot though."

Hit the 8, and draw out three rails to make the 9?

now you're thinking.......but do you know how to make the cue do that?

I think I do. I put the english on the wei. I would hit it almost full with high right english. I may set it up later and see if I can do it. You acually have a chance of makeing the 8 ball in one of the sides as it will run back and fourth. If I am thinking right.

Not in any form of match. But trying diffrent trick shot's I have been able to draw out the three rails. It's just tricky on how thin to hit the ball. Don't really even need draw if you get enough right.
But hey you guys are the players. I just bang em around.

right hand spin won't do it.

FL showed me how to shoot this shot... You have to stroke the cue ball and hit the 8 ball rather full with a ton of top left. The 8 is cleared out of the way, and if you angle the shot into the 8 correctly and use the right stroke the cue ball will head straight for the 9. The top left should ensure the cue ball won't follow the 9 into the corner pocket. When he showed me this shot, after about 6 or 7 tries I started to make it consistently...

Is there a better way to do it, VAP?

when you hit it, angle the cue SLIGHTLY. you'll SLIGHTLY be hitting down on the cue ball with high left........don't have to hit it hard, just a great stroke and alot of follow through. the slight angle makes it alot easier.

good 1 hole shot too.

It's interesting what you say about angling the cue slightly. You're totally right about that. It makes the cue ball masse a touch. I think I just do that now without even realizing it. Every once in a while I'll shoot a couple of racks doing nothing but little jump masse shots bouncing the cue ball around the table after hitting the object ball. I almost do it without thinking... sheesh...

Once when I was shooting a bunch of shots like that, my former instructor asked what I was doing. I didn't really know, but had seen some players doing that on some shots, and started playing around with it. Very important shots...

Grady wrote an article a little while back on this stuff, especially as applied to one pocket. Pretty cool...

its a combination shot. 8-9 combination. But the trick is you have to hit the rail first with center ball hit on th qb, medium speed. even if the 8 should drift out a bit due to a slight friction or an erring stroke, it should still be able to get a piece of the 9 to pocket it. one should be able to do this 70% to 90% of the time. Just practice with it for 5 minutes and you'll see what I mean. Just hit the RAIL first. ;)

Ok, in the real world, I'd simply play the bank but obviously, we're looking for more dramatic answers today! One option is to use high-left. Bank the 8 in the side pocket and have the cue-ball double the side-rail. It should force-follow toward the 9-ball. This type of cue-ball action is something I'll actually use on occasion with side-pocket shots when I've fallen on the wrong side. I've never actually tried it with a bank. In fact, I'm even doubtful it would work but I promise to try when I hit the room tonight.

it works, but you're not gonna make the 8, you have to hit it with almost a half to 3/4 ball hit. the 8 will go higher than the side.

i wouldn't hesitate to shoot this shot in a match........ever........its not really that difficult, just one of those things you have to know.

you can do the same thing when the object ball is slightly angled near the side........if you hit it really well it will come off the rail and curve back into the side.
