Well, it never ceases to amaze me that when the word "Varney" pops up in this forum, there is usually some sort of controversial discussion. This thread started with (dare I say it) a "subjective" question on which cue was better. As has happened in the past, it escalated into a discussion on which cue maker has more talent, better artistic capability, etc. The question was "subjective" when it references the term "better." For every person that says one is better, there is usually another person saying something different.
One person tried to convey an honest opinion in which I think much of his post was taken out of context by others (as usually happens) and I don't think there was any harmful intention though it escalated to it. In as much as it could be construed as such, I don't think the poster's original question had anything to do with cue making ability. Why it switched to that is up to the individuals that changed the topic.
The only thing I can say about this is Kevin really needs to thank everyone who posts and adds to these discussions for all of the free publicity. I don't know about anyone else, but when there is a discussion of this type, I search the forum to gain a little more knowledge and you know what I am directed to? I see thread after thread of satisfied customers with some good things to say about Varney J/B cues and yes Varney player cues. If Kevin were to pay for this type of publicity, he'd probably need to take a second job so he could afford it all. And yes, the same thing can be said for Gilbert cues, or a host of others, a simple search will come up with many people with many good things to say.
I always try to keep an open mind when reading these posts, because everyone that usually participates has some excellent points to add to the discussion (and many have some entertainment value). We all have our opinions and are entitled to them. But in reality, one could say that 5 pages in this thread are mostly irrelevant to the original posters question.
To the original poster of this thread, as I said in a previous post I can not tell you about my experiences with a Gilbert J/B. I have never owned one. I can only provide my opinion on the Varney J/B I do own. In my other post in this thread, I posted a link to my review thread. I can only hope this gives you some insight on my experience with my purchase. As to say which one is better, that is something only you can decide for you. You may like one better over another, or get better results with one over the other, and that is something that nobody in this forum can answer for you. They can only provide their experiences on the cues they own or have owned in the past.
Sorry for writing a small book, I hope I made some sort of sense. LOL.
