Gluing the cloth

I was given a 9' table that needed complete refinishing. After stripping it down to the bare wood , re-staining and sealing I'm ready to wrap it up. The particle wood that's attached underneath the state is crumbling and not in the best condition, so I'm thinking staples might not hold in certain areas. I've glued cloth on bar tables and not given it a second thought....now it's different. I'm trying out Velocity Cloth for the first time and was wondering any good advice before I do this.

I installed Velocity Pro on my nine and like it, though it is faster than even Simonis 860. I think if I recover again I will use Simonis, as no pool halls around me use cloth as fast as the Velocity.
You seem to have some wood skills, would it be feasible to take a little longer and buy some clear poplar and make a new frame for each slate? My commercial AMF table uses poplar, as well as most good commercial tables I have worked on. It is a stable hardwood that holds up to stapling well. Particle boards only redeeming feature is price. Just a thought here, I never tried replacing a backer frame, but I have removed some to repair them. Maybe some of the more experienced mechanics can chime in here?

Thanks for the advice , I have been working on it all day and now at 3:00 am calling it a night. I worked it out and it really looks great. I'll have to post some pics. Thanks again.
