The GC II is built heavier, and it has pinned slate. The III came with rosewood aprons, they were originally pianted on the II, but I have seen some that were stripped and stained. The II aprons are made of poplar, and do not have the rosewood grain pattern. The II aprons are a little deeper than the III, but not as deep as the I. GC III had copper corners, The II had Pot Metal, and the I had aluminum. That's all I know off top of my head. I have been looking for pictures if a I, II, & III to put them up side by each for comparison. I haven't found any yet. I have a GC I, so maybe I'll just go to the poolhall tomorrow and see if i can take a picture of a II & III. If so, I'll post them.

Hey Frank, some 3's have doweled slates too. My 3 does

The 3's are crap because of the corner casting conections, and the green pine that they used for the slate backing. Not to mention the weak way the skirts are connected. It is like they forgot how to make a good table, and cut as many corners as they could! And the 1/2" they shortened the rail botls must have save alot! lmao!

The room that I used to work in had 2 GCrowns w/ ashtrays at (I believe 2 of 4) the corners. Which GC was that? Were lots made?

I have only seen those two and, while I thing having to put your hand in an asstray to shoot is lame, I liked the deco kinda look they lent.

Just wondering!

Wow, ashtrays! That's a new one! Buy it for cheap and you've certainly got a collecters item! Not that anybody should smoke at the table while playing, let alone put one out on a pool table-God forbid- but something that useless on a pool table has got to be worth a fortune to Brunswick personally. I'm sure they would want to get all those off the market! I'm sure the guy at Brunswick who came up with that idea is long gone!

@Frank,
What does a "pinned slate" mean. I've been away for so long, I guess I'm loosing my grip on the English language. Are those the 3 studs between the 3 slates that keep them all aligned? If so, don't the I's and III's have them. I know the IV's have them and I'd be really surprised if the III's didn't.
Thanks again!

The slate is doweled on the edges of the 3 pieces where they fit together, and then it is machined flat. It makes it play more like it is one piece, the seams are less likely to sag or separate, I think. My slate (GC I) is 1 1/16" thick, the GC III's I have seen are 15/16" thick, another reason III's aren't so popular.

OK, but does your GCI have those dowels, Frank?

Oh yes. Both the I and II had them and some one posted that their III had pinned slate. I have never seen a III with pinned slate, but I havent seen all of them, either.
