I gotta great 3 ball story...
My buddy Scott Sherman and I were in college, and we decide to go to this little rinky dink redneck dive place and shoot some pool. Not even sure of the name of it now, as it's been years and it was literally out in the middle of no where. Funny thing is Scott is not much of a shot, so he just sits back and watches me work.
We get there and there are some guys playing 3 ball...I sorta sit and watch for a few. They ask me if I wanna play, 1 dollar a man. They explained how it worked and I said sure. I lost the first couple. I was playing with a cue off the wall. I then figured out which way to turn the cue to get it somewhat straight and I won a couple of games. Now keep in mind I didn't have my bridge or my cue out yet. We dropped down from 5 guys to me and two other guys. Then they wanted to bump the bet to $5 a man. I said sure...and told Scott to go get "Leon". You see, at the time I had a neon green McDemott with matching case that we had nicknamed "Neon Leon". Hell I even took sticker letters and put the name on the side of the cue. The guys thought it was a hoot...til I started stomping them in the ground. I won about 30 off each of them...when low and behold my best pool buddy named Wayne Kellum walks in and starts laughing his butt off. He looks over at the two guys and says "what the hell are you two doing? That little guy is probably the best bar table player in the county." They proceeded to quit as he killed ALL my action for the night. It was a good laugh though and he and I shot some and drank away the night. We sorta had to leave carefully as I was getting eyeballed the rest of the night. Kellum and I always knew how to party and have fun. I think thats my one and only time I have ever played three ball.
