Good drills

A few days ago I tried this drill. The goal is to pot all 15 balls in single inning, with the ball in the center spot being potted last and you must not start with either ball on the short rail. You have a ball in hand at the start. You're allowed to touch the cushion with the cue ball, but you must not disturb any balls or play any combos. What makes it tough, for me at least is that 14 balls are frozen to the cushion. This also requires really good cue ball control and pocketing skills.

What I would like from you is to post some of the drills you think are useful and/or tricky. My personal favourites are the ones which look easy, but are not!

One of my favorite practice games is to put 15 balls on the table with no clusters and no balls touching the rails. Start with cb in hand and run all the balls in one inning without letting the cb touch the rail. If the cb touches a rail, you have to start over. This is a good drill to work on your control of the cb.

One I like to do is, Place all 15 balls in a circle in the middle of the table. Place the CB in the center of the circle and shoot the balls in different pockets(not the same pocket 2 shots in a row) with out touching another ball or rail. This drill helps the stop, draw and siding shots. On a bar box, its kinda cramped so you might want to take a couple of balls off the table. Have Fun!

I like doing the same thing, except I force myself to play one-rail shape on every shot.

Shoot in numerical order to pocket A. Cueball may only touch the ball on. Hat off to anyone who can regularly complete this. Requires good soft touch with precise position play because you need to be always on the right side of the object ball.

This is surprisingly difficult, though looks easy. Start with a ball-in-hand and shoot any of the 1 to 6. Idea is a little bit snooker-like, the balls from 1 to 6 represent reds and you need to make the black 8 after each red, so the 8-ball in every other shot. 8-ball is frozen in the middle of the short rail. And yes, after making the 8, you need to replace it. And you don't replace the balls 1 to 6 but you can shoot them in any order. No collision with any balls, so the run has to be clean. I'll buy you a beer if you manage to clear this within the first 2-3 tries !! Almost lost my nerves on this one on a one particularly bad day... :D

I like this one. Ball in hand to start, cb cannot touch any rails or any ball other than the one you're shooting at, no combinations, pocket all balls in one inning.

I generally start where I have the cb shown with the 7 in the side.

Another good one is the spot shot drill. Simply place a ball on the foot spot, cb in hand, and make the ball leaving shape for another spot shot. Continue as long as you can untill you get bored (you're good!) or frustrated (Usually what happens to me!).

I love seeing all these drills, keep 'em coming!
