I agree with Shaw and Earl about working out. The only reason why I go to the gym to lift all the weights and run all the miles is for pool.
I do it because I feel pool is heading towards speed pool so you have to be in good shape. Steady hand and focus while your heart is racing. Granted, I'm not a professional but the gym training is real noticeable on the pool table.
I do 2 hours sessions, 500 balls, with maybe one or two breaks. It's pretty easy. Most guys at the pool hall are more amazed of the stamina. With the new found stamina it helps me play longer.
