I went to the local club tonight where I usually practice. They have a 9 foot Brunswick from 1903 in the basement and I can go down there and shoot uninterrupted for hours. At $5 a year, and being 5 min. away from my house, its a great spot to get some practice time in.
I was hitting some 14.1 when my friends younger brother comes in. He starts telling me about shooting in a league and how he likes to shoot 9-ball and asked if I wanted to play. After 5 or so minutes of talking, I gather 2 important bits of info from him. He is an APA SL3, and he has ADHD. I figured there'd be no harm in shooting a few games with him.
We started at 7:30 p.m. and shot non-stop until they closed the place at 2:30 a.m.
Since I started, I don't think I've ever been hooked like I was tonight. Every time I got to the table, I had to use my brain, which is usually on a 7 day a week vacation. I was tied up in clusters, had to kick or play safe on every so many shots, runs were few and far between. If I left him any shot at all, he was banging it in or sending the 9 for a ride. The run-outs were few and far between. I was working for everything I got in all those games and without a doubt I picked my game up a notch after it was said and done.
When we quit, we exchanged numbers and told him to call me if he ever wants to shoot again. He explained to me how pool helps his ADHD because it forces him to pay attention to just whats on the table.
Just thought I'd share that. If anybody has any stories on somebody having them hooked either in practice or matching up, I'd be up for hearing those.
