Greenleaf Lawsuit over Dumping Game

I came across this article and it made me laugh how things never change. Greenleaf, the 20-year world champion, was scheduled to play an exhibition match against Joe Concannon, a well-known player from NY that was friends with Ralph. Greenleaf told a gambler named Robert Duval that they were going to play for the world championship. Duval then paid Greenleaf $300 ($4k in today's money) to dump the game so Joe Concannon would be the new world champion. Greenleaf dutifully dumped the game, but of course it didn't matter because it was only an exhibition. Duval then filed suit, hoping to get his $300 back. Records are scarce, but the court appears to have quickly dismissed Duval's lawsuit as even judges frown on dumping games.
