I wanted to take a second this morning to let you all know about a fantastic shaft and a great cuemaker to do buisness with.
A few weeks ago I got in touch with Mike about purchasing one of his SPT shafts with his special shaft freeze for my cue. The transaction was smooth and he was very good about promptly returning my emails. He also delivered the shaft exactly within the time frame he had quoted.
I recieved the shaft this weekend, and right out of the box I was very impressed - particularly with the ferrel and tip. He did a fantastic job burnishing and shaping the moori medium I requested; it looked absolutely flawless.
I was even more impressed when I got it to the table. I like to use a long bridge for most shots, and the extra long pro taper on the shaft is very accomodating. The freeze also provides a very smooth feeling and a nice clean look.
As far as performance, well, the shaft is - in my opinion - without equal. Im not a fantastic player by any stretch, but I can play well enough, I've played long enough, and I have played with enough different shafts to say my opinion is a fairly educated one. The SPT has a very responsive and lively hit, and despite its long taper, has great stability as well. The original shafts for my cue were similar in taper but seemed to deflect and squirt quite a bit more. From what I read prior to purchasing this shaft, Mike attributes the stability and playability to his shaft freeze treatment. From my experience thus far, I can definitely confirm this.
The shaft seems to play more like a low deflection composite, yet it retains the feel and responsiveness of a traditional. If there is anyone out there looking for something that falls between their predators/OB1's and their traditional maple's. I think this might be the shaft for you.
Anyway, I will stop gushing like some sort of fanboy. The shaft is the nuts
Thanks Mike!
