i recently recruited a guy on my 9 ball league that was in the bar playing on the non league table. he seemed interested in the whole league thing so i asked him if he wanted to join. he said yes and showed up the following week to play. he pulled out a real old stick that looked pretty nice from where i was standing. i asked him what it was and he said zambonie or something. i said "you mean szamboti?" he said "yeah, thats it. i remembered it souned like the ice rink machines, thats how i remember" he then said his father had it made back in the late 60's early 70's from a guy in philly. his father gave it to him and told him not to forget the name. after i picked my jaw up off the floor, i asked for a closer inspection. the cue has 4 ebony points with 3 veneers, yellow, black, and i forget what the other color was. the wrap looks real old and not like any linen i have ever seen but somewhat simalar. curly maple forearm and silver ring work on the butt end and at the joint and on the shafts. there may have been one in front of the wrap, i forget. but what got me thinking was that if you rub your finger across all the points, you can feel them. they seem to be raised up a little. wondering if that would be common for a real old cue? i know it wanst made that way. the joint is a stainless steel, probably 5/16 i believe. could this thing be for real?

Old cues often do that (raised points) especially if they werer hauled around in someone's trunk all the time. Nobody I know would use a vintage Szamboti at league events. If he offers it to you cheap I'd be suspicious. Another urban legend begins.

he had no idea what it would be worth, he was guessing around $1800 because thats what someone told him a long time ago. he also has no intention of getting rid of it as its like an heirloom to him. i told him if it WAS real it could be worth 5-10k, maybe more. he still said he wouldnt sell it. i was just concerned about the points raising as to its authenticity. i also told him not to bring it out but he still does:confused: . he wants to send it to barry to find out for sure and maybe get it refinished. i told him i would get his number and give it to him this monday when i see him.
