I think what would work best is if a few installers would supply some "frequently asked questions" and the answers to those questions. Then the mod would just have to evaluate these and then compile them.

ANSWER: Three-piece slate is generally better suited for residential tables. 98% of quality furniture-style tables you will come across will have 3-piece slate. From time to time you may come across some lower-grade tables manufactured from the 60s-80s that may have one-piece slate - most will have the name Fisher on them - these I would steer clear of unless you are partial to plywood and pressboard. One of the main drawbacks of one-piece slate is the expense in having it moved. Most table mechanics will charge 2-3 times the cost of moving a three-peice slate table.
