Looking for way to get 2 players evenly matched in a game of 8 ball (league play)
Where one player is a 9 1/2 and the other is 8

Only one I know of is lower man breaks, and gets 1 ball in hand after a miss.

Anyone know of any others Handicapping for 8 Ball ?

2 bad players of equal badness, play even up a race to 2. 2 great players of equal skill play each other even up a race to 7. a bad player plays a great player, the great player goes to 9 and the bad player goes to 5. if a player is just slightly worse than the other, make the race 8 to7. these are examples, that make good sense. in the apa, i'm a 7, and if i play a 4, i think it's 5 to 2 or something, how about lenghthing the race! now, let's see the rotton players win!!! how about the rotton player goes to 5, and i go to 10.

I dunno how you could do it with league handicaps, but betting at the bar i have used these.

Nominate 1-4 pockets that i cannot use and you can.
Run my balls in order
Run my balls in order modified, i can sink either the highest or lowest ball in my group
I play bank 8 or last pocket eight while you shoot it straight in

there are dozens, i cant think of em all right now.

But I am looking for a handicap for a single game format.

Example
Some friends and I, get together and play some 8 ball, to practice for the league.
One of the players is a pro. The rest, average
Winner stays at the table. (only one table)
What single 8 ball game, can we play when playing the pro, to keep it more even playing him ?

Spot

When my wife first started playing, it was very uneven. I chose to bank the eight into the pocket I made my last ball in. Then I just had to bank in the eight. A couple months ago, I broke em pretty good, but didn't pot a ball. She ran the rack and banked in the eight. No more SPOT man. I lost $10 the other night playing her 5/2 9ball. 2 sets for $5.00 a set. Whats a poor boy gonna do????????

Purdy, You must be teaching her something. It's a great thing to see someone learn, but it's hard to deal with when they pass you up. You better find a table and practice some. Come to Vegas and I'll see if I can find someone to help you. HA HA.
My wife beats me sometimes too. Sam

I have a nice Gandy Big "G" in the basement. Gal wants to play before I go to work and when I get home. I am a certified BCA instructor. Haven't given her any formal lessons yet. She is a very keen observer though. She has been playing for about 3 years now. On her third custom cue. I think Blud got her with the Pink Ivory cue he personalized for her. " To Susan, Da Blud 03". She likes that stuff. Another $1,800 investment.

oh, well, then here's the thing. play straight up. handicapping is a dumb concept. just let the pro play the children until they learn.

Handicap...

I like to use the following version...
example...
player A = rated an 8
player B = rated a 6
player B does not have to use all of his balls .. he may leave one ball on the table and then shoot the eight ball...
beginners can only leave 4 balls max...they have to shoot something!
I have a complete format and set up for the specific rules...
I have been using this system for over 20 years and very few complaints...only from those "too good" to give any thing up...
