Hard,medium,soft-what's it all mean?

One one of the parameters missing in some of these high speed videos of how balls react is a quantitative value for the speed of the CB. The terms hard, medium, soft to describe the hit needed on the CB.These are highly subjective terms based solely on a persons opinion.

There was a graph posted awhile back to illustrate the path of the CB after a hit. In the description of the test setup, a CB speed of 5 mph was listed as one of the parameters.

But what does a CB moving at 5MPH look like? How hard a hit is that?

Turns out it is way harder than needed for alot of shots in pool except for the break.

Here is another way to look at 5 mph CB speed; 5mph=7.33 ft per second(bar table) and 88 inches per second. That a very hard hit and not used very often in shot making.

So here are a few more conversions:
3 mph=4.4 ft per second and 52.8 inches per second.
1mph=1.46 ft per second and 17.6 inches per second.

Until there is a quantitative value and not a subjective value used in test videos trying to so what happens in all shot making, they are just mostly entertaining then informative.

Another reason to "question all the answers" and not just blindly accept them as gospel.

I'm new to the game. I'm trying to learn CB speed by numbering a hit to the number of rails the un-interrupted CB travels.

From the headstring to the far rail is "1". Back to the headstring is "2". Three rails is "3" and so on.

It took a while to muscle-memory the feel of a hit, but it has given me an objective reference for CB speed.
