Hard tips

What hardness, of hard tips, is good for playing? I brought three sumos, and just put one on tonight and know its going to be too hard except for breaking for me. What other single layer tips are good other than triangle and lepro (both of which I think have suffered in quality lately). Really liked triangles and lepro's until I started getting mushy ones.

How do the tiger layered tips in medium hard hit? Have one of those, but haven't installed it yet. Just curious as to what I can expect.

I'm in the same boat as you liking LePro, and Triangle tips. Another tip you might like is a Talisman "soft". It's really the only layered tip I felt was soft enough for my liking. Not to mention they last for ever.

Sniper is a hard tip, it isn't a medium tip. If you like triangle though, then you might like Sniper. Sniper tips last for freakin ever too. Triangles are supposed to be a medium-hard tip.

I don't like moori at all, but you might like them, and they come in soft, medium and hard.

I use a Moori Medium on most of my playing cues, and Moori Hard on the break cues. I like them, i have used a lot of others too but found the Moories easy to deal with and they play good. But using a too hard tip for playing is not good, they hold the shape good but miscues a lot and gives poor English.

Sniper tips start medium, they have a feeling of tiny little fingers grabbing the ball. With time they become very hard. My tip has held the shape for the last 3 months. Chock stays on them well. They will miscue more often than a soft tip.

Moori tips, I have a soft on one of my shafts and it has been the worst tip (aside from Le Pro) I have ever had. Mushrooming all the time and it cracked on top of it. My medium moori is on a 314 shaft and I never use it, not sure if it is the tip or the 314 shaft that gives me no feel.

I have had very soft Elk master tips that never, ever mushroomed. However, there was a lot of shaping going on.

My next tip will be something a little softer than sniper but not too much. I thinks that would be the ideal hardness. Perhaps a tiger of some sorts.

I've got moori's on one of my cues now, think they are moori med and don't really care for them. Actually brought the sniper to put on that cue, believe its a hard (too lazy to go look) that I got from muellers.

I've used tailsmans, and haven't had any bad luck. Just didn't like the hit all that much. Like a fairly hard tip, just not so hard that 160 grit sandpaper has a hard time cutting it like the sumo's *lol*. Sumo's should be outstanding as a break and jump tip in a leather tip though.

Hey buddy,

I was a huge proponent of Triangle tips until I recently tried Hercules. I have a Hercules hard on my Joss and my new Webb is going to have a Hercules Medium on one shaft and a Tiger Dynamite on the other shaft. If you're interested I will post my opinion in about a month when I get it and try them out.

Regards,
Koop

FWIW, I get all the action I could ever ask for with the hard tip but out of cuiousity I want to try something a little softer.

I've tried some softer tips and just keep going back to a good medium hard one. Played with Tiger everest tips for awhile, like them. Hoping the sniper plays just a touch harder than the everest. Thought I'd try out the sumo since they would seem to be about as hard as a worn out old lepro. Putting it on last night though reminded me of a schon tip, and those did to tink a bit much and for some reason the cue ball always seemed to jump off them in a weird way for me. Triangles have been what I've been using for the last two years or so, but the last two I have gotten just keep wanting to mushroom out and seem softer than before. Still have a source that has some old lepro's, so may just buy the rest of them up and use them until they are gone.

Would like to know how the hercules medium plays indeed. Tried a h2 and didn't like it. Have had just plain hercules and they play good. I tend to like to test things out, which of course doesn't help my play. But it is fun to mess around with things.

try waterbuffalo tips. they non-layered and are hard not too hard tho

Sniper

Snipers don't miscue anymore than any other tip. They hold the chalk very well and as long as you keep chalk on them you are good. I haven't ever had a problem with a miscue.

Must be your stroke is why you miscue. LOL:rolleyes:

I've tried all the tips everybody has mentioned and I find the Talisman WB-M is a great tip, a little harder than a M, they hold chalk great and don't mushroom, good spin also. IMO

I been playing with the sumo for about a week now, really surprised at how well it plays. Thought when I put it on it would be too hard, but it actually plays very well.

Just thought I'd follow up.
