One interesting thing is, top pool equipment now plays closer to carom equipment than it used to. Basically slicker equipment in pool.There are several other examples if you go back farther that are better than Shorty. Greenleaf, Crane and Mosconi all played in 3C championships along with Procita as mentioned in the interview. I think the problem now is that the level of all the play has improved and that may mean that you have to be focused on one set of stick, balls and table. Until 1970 or so a grand average of 1.3 at 3C was rare. Now a 1.3 in any match is unlikely to win. As for 9 ball, see the just-finished final at the US Open.
