Harry Sims interview

There are several other examples if you go back farther that are better than Shorty. Greenleaf, Crane and Mosconi all played in 3C championships along with Procita as mentioned in the interview. I think the problem now is that the level of all the play has improved and that may mean that you have to be focused on one set of stick, balls and table. Until 1970 or so a grand average of 1.3 at 3C was rare. Now a 1.3 in any match is unlikely to win. As for 9 ball, see the just-finished final at the US Open.
One interesting thing is, top pool equipment now plays closer to carom equipment than it used to. Basically slicker equipment in pool.

Of course it's still much different but it's a lot closer. So when it comes to adjusting from one game to another, well... I don't have the answer. I'd say for me it takes about 3 days to really fully adjust.

Hi Bob. You forgot to mention Harold Worst!

Do you agree with his comment about having to choose one discipline over the other in order to be a champion?

What about Boston Shorty?

I think to play any of the games at a very high level I would think you would need to concentrate for a good period of time on only one game. After you gain an elite status you could change games to try to achieve an elite status in that game. Once you have acheived the level you're looking for it would become easier to play both pool and billiards at that same high level. So yes, I do believe you need to concentrate on one discipline to be a champion of that game...but lol.

Maybe a person doesn't have that luxury and needs to make money at whatever game?
