Has anyone ever played a table with this type of lighting?

I have a dedicated pool room with four recessed can lights roughly 2 feet diagonal out from each corner pocket, and a ceiling fan with 4 bulbs directly over the center of the table. I like the fan where it is, but the lighting is just blech. Acceptable, but no ambience.

There's a company called swivelier with products that screw into a light socket and extend into one or two spot lights (http://www.swivelier.com/id20.htm).

...seriously thinking about installing them and shining wide spots on the table (see attached) from each corner.

I've seen other AZBers who have been happy using halogen track lights, but this approach spreads the lights out to the four corners.

Has anyone ever seen this approach?
Pros? Cons?

You'll have shadows in all directions with the lights like that. If you don't mind that then I'm sure it would brighten it up but it would bug me. I'd suggest replacing the ceiling fan with a proper light and getting an oscilating fan or two, I just picked one up for my pool table room for $20 and it circulates the air fine. I live in Phoenix where its 110 everyday and the one fan is plenty.

This arrangement would suck. Plus, you' d be pumping in 1,000 watts of heat....not to mention the carbon foot print...think green..

You'll be shooting some long shots, especially kitty-corner, and that
light will hit your eyes so bad you'll think you're being grilled by the TSA.
...you gonna roll over on your grandmother.....
:eek:just turn the lights off, I'll tell you everything:eek:

I'm not 100% sure but I think you'll have a LOT of shadows happening on the table, and as someone else mentioned, a light shining in your eyes from all four corners.

A ceiling fan also creates a strobe effect with any light that passes it. That would drive me crazy. (my wife would nearly pass out; her brain doesn't do well with flashing light; some people are that way). Stay away from halogen, it creates so much heat you can toast bread under it.

With your existing can lights you've got plenty of electrical connections in the ceiling. Run a box to the center of the table and put in a proper light that's designed to throw light evenly across your playing area. The existing cans can be used to increase the amount of ambient light in the area depending on your mood.

The only downside is that you will have to move the table while the new electrical box and fixture are being installed.

if you like to cook when you play..

I agree with LED lighting but the color of the light may make you spoiled when you visit your local pool hall.

Even with can lights shooting straight down around the periphery, they shine in your eyes till you're down. This would be a major problem with these. No where to escape.
