Heated tables?

I see Carom tables and now some Snooker tables are heated. My question is how are they heated? Do they use some sort of heat mat or coils? Wouldn't this have to be routed just right to miss any slate levelers? Also what's the real benefit of the heat?

Also would heating be of any benefit on a pool table?

Heat makes the table play faster.

Heated tables make for a more consistent playing of the cloth: it controls the level of humidity of the cloth.
In carom and 3cushion they say "it makes the table play longer and faster"

A view of our 6 carom tables, the 4 left ones are tournament pro size.
2 times model Bitalis 2001 from Breton, 1 Toulet and 1 Verhoeven.
On the left - not visible - we have seating for about 50 spectators.
Every (normal) year world famous players come play in our competition: Raymond Ceulemans and family, Ludo Dielis, Frederic Caudron, Eddy Merckx, Eddy Leppens, Dick Jaspers, Torbjorn Blohmdal, Richard Bitalis, Jeremy Bury and many more.

In Belgium, the Netherlands and France, 3cushion (inter)national competition and tournaments only use heated tables.

Heated snooker tables, I only know of a few in my country: this is not mainstream. In the UK there will be plenty.
The rumour goes that the new snooker tables to be installed in a couple of months (Rasson magnum II) will be equipped with a heating system, but will not be connected (due to all world problems the power bills in my country are now times 2 or 3 in regard to 2020)

It's an interesting novelty, but even though I live in climate that wildly swings in various directions (Southern Canada) I don't know if I'd bother.

Maybe the next time I decide to rebuild my table.

I've seen system for heating for sale on the web they cost about $1500. They are basicalkly small wires that go under the slate and a unit that electrfies them. It takes like 3 days for the slate to heat up...
