Here's the deal. I have around 120 dollars to spend on a cue. What should I get? I don't know *anything* about cues (I usually play with house cues) so please mention why a certain cue would be better suited for me than another. I'm guessing personal preference plays a big enough role in determining what I ultimately get, but is there anything I should definately stay away from?
Thanks, I appreciate it!

Stay away from non-maple shaft cues.
Stay away from graphite, fiberglass or titanium.
You can probably get a Viking close to that amount.

For all people I talk to who are looking for an inexpensive first cue I tell them to get a Mali.

You can get a plain joss for about that much. Thats what I would do for 120. But, if you could spend 150 I would definately get a Bob Frey plain sneaky pete. Im sure you could get one of those for that. Here is the website:

$120 cues...

Theres many cues out there in your price range. Always remember, you get what you pay for though! I could get you a new Viking, McDermott or Mali cue for that price.
Email me if you're interested!

Thanks,
Zim

for just a bit more, you can get a dominiak plain jane. zim might be able to hook you up.

Hey New Guy!

All of the ones mentioned are good. My suggestion to you is to attend one of the upcoming shows.. i.e. Super Billiards Expo in PA, BCA expo in Vegas, or the BCA tournaments in Vegas this coming May. This way you can get the feel for the cue and possibly get a better price. Although, Zim gets real good deals and I would most definatly contact him for any cue info!

Regards!

Eydie

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I really appreciate them. I went to a billiards store not to long ago and asked one of the employees (co-owner if I'm not mistaken) about cues. He was very informed and didn't mind my being in the place even though it had been flooded three days prior. He let me play with a couple of Malis and one McDermott and I loved them. My favorite was around 300 dollars but I can't remember which one it was (not like it matters as it is too expensive for me). They are a hell of a lot better than house cues, lol! Anyway, can someone fill me on tips, ferrules, and joints? What is optimal (for 150 dollars)? That sort of stuff. Tell me everything you can fit in a post or send a few links my way that explain everything about everything. Thanks a lot, guys! When I turn pro I'll make this the most popular site on the internet =P. (J/k about turning pro)

If you are going to the BCA tournament in Vegas WAIT!!!! go to the Fury booith and try out their new line of cues.
