Help identify Model of Joss sneaky pete and if the shaft is original or not?

I am hoping that one of you Joss experts out there can tell me some information about my Joss sneaky pete cue.

I would really like to know the model of it, when it may have been made, and the retail cost of the cue when it was new.

I would also like opinions on if the shaft looks to be original, or not?

I have no idea, but I think that Joss sneaky pete cues usually came with a shaft with a black joint collar on them.

The joint of the butt feels pretty flush with the joint of the shaft, but there does not appear to be any finish on either part of the cue.

The cue has a very dirty look to it, because there does not appear to be a finish on it.

I know that this is off of the topic of my question, but I would just like to add that the butt has a little bit of a roll out near the joint (and maybe Joss tapered their older sneaky pete cues this way), but the shaft is pretty straight, and the cue rolls pretty straight when rolled together (with some roll out, but the tip not leaving the table when rolled).

Thanks for any opinions about the cue.

I would like to post the cue for sale in the For Sale section of the forum, and would just like to know as much info about the cue as possible before I try to sell it on here.

Thanks.

Doesn't look like the original shaft to me. Black collar or not, I have never seen that material used in the insert of the shaft on any Joss cue.

I have a similar sneaky that was ID'd on here as from the 94 catalog. Yours is a bit different, but there is a wealth of information contained in the members here and surely others will chime in. Good luck! -Josh

EDIT: is the joint pin 5/16x18? because it sure looks like a finer thread than mine...

Thanks for the info. I wish I had a good digital camera to take much better pics of the cue with. I am not sure, but I thought that all Joss cues use a piloted 5/16x14 joint.

I know now that the Joss sneaky pete does have a 5/16x18 joint on it, because my Meucci shaft fits in the butt of the Joss. I never knew that Joss made cues with the 5/16x18 joints. So can anyone give me any information about the cue? My pictures are very bad quality, but I hope that are good enough to identify the Joss. Would really like to know some info about the cue. Thanks.

Late 80's to early 90's is when they were still using that gold letter logo. The early 90's is when they started to put that logo on the butt of their cues instead of the joint collar, so that would be my best guess. Not sure if the shaft is original, but Joss did/does make collarless shafts for their sneakies. Shafts with no collar are always hard to date since there's literally no identifying characteristics other than the joint thread and ferrule/tip which could have been changed. Anyways, hope that helps

Thanks for the info. So what about the joint type? It is a piloted 5/16x18 (not a 5/16x14), so I found this to be very strange, because I never knew Joss cues made any cues with a 5/16x18 joint. I know it is 5/16x18, because my Meucci shaft (from a Meucci originals that I have) screws right in to to Joss butt. Thanks.

Probably a 5/16x18 if a Meucci shaft fits on it. Plus I've never seen a shaft insert like that one a Joss sneaky. My best guess is the cue was re-pinned and the shaft isn't original. On a related note, Joss did make some cues with a 5/16x18 joint, but they were from the late 60's to early 70's. Yours isn't from that era, so it's likely it was just re-pinned.

Thanks for the info. Well, Dan Jones from joss cues told me that he never made a cue with a 5/16x18 pin on it, and he also told me that the shaft is not original. So does the cue have must value at all now? I created a new thread with better pictures in the link below.

Maybe the cue would be worth something to someone as a good break cue? I hope so.
