A few months ago I found my first cue cleaning out a closet. I purchased a mali in 1987 for 185.00 at a pool hall (which is not worth 50 bucks). I tried a bollman shaft I recently purchased but it does not go with the stainless joint. I plan on taking it to SBE and have the shaft retapered and a new tip and ferrule.

If anyone can offer any suggestions on ferrule type, tip, and taper, it would be immensely appreciated. I contacted deacon to buy a few crown tips to try but I think if I retaper the shaft and change the ferrule, it should make a difference.

Thanks in advance for the advice. I know I am wasting money on a turd of a cue, but it has a sentimental value that I would like to pass on to my kids someday.

As always, I appreciate your time, experience and expertise. I am very grateful for this site....

If possible I would try to find a cue repair person closer to home. The problem with making a number of changes at one time is that you do not know which one had an effect on the shaft.

If you do them one at a time you will be able to feel the effect of each one and know better what you like or don't like. I try to discourage customers from making more than one change at a time to cues for this reason.
