Im a decent player and have been playing alot lately. I am having the worst time with my break right now. I will go hours setting whitey down perfect then all of a sudden dreaded side hole will creep in and has lasted as long as 7 or 8 games what can i do to get rid of this and make it more consistent thanks in advance!!!

try taking a little bit of the speed off and see if this helps. concentrate on hitting the cue ball solid rather than hard. hope this helps.

yeah take the speed off the break to get yourself back dialed in then slowly increase the power again once you have the problem sorted.

of course preacticing you break more so you get better at it will make a huge difference - get a breakrak.

How many hours have you practiced the break? That is, rack/break; rack/break; rack/break, etc. with no shooting in between?

I have seen pros and top level players just practice the break for hours at a time. And repeat this once every month or two.

Just like any other shot, it has to be practiced. Give a kid or friend or little brother $10 an hour just to rack, otherwise it gets old pretty fast.

If youe cue ball is headed toward the side pocket, then you are not hitting the head ball square. This is probably because you are pulling your stoke in toward your body when making the forward stroke for the break. Like the others said, take off a little speed, to make sure your stroke is true, then increase until you can hit it as hard as possible while still hitting straight.

i will try adjusting the speed i practice the break rack and break em 30 min a week i wud think maybe more and its so frustrating playing and putting packages together then not even being able to keep the cue ball dry forgot to mention this is on bar tables if that changes anyones opinion like side rail break etc.
