Help with joint protector

I just got my new cue a Dominiak DW1009 in Curly Maple and Ebony and i love the cue it has a radial pin shaft and the female Joint Protector doesnt screw down all the way. I was thinking it is due to the bottom of the pin not having any threads. that seems to be the problem cause that is where it stops. but the Protector is about 1-2 millimeters longer then the pin itself if i was to place it on the joint itself. Should i drill a hole in the top first to see if that will make the protector go all the way to the joint or should i tr and widen the opening a little bit so the part of the pin that doesnt have threads can go in there.

If you need me to take pictures please let me know and i will. I just want it to fit as perfectly as possible.

Chuck, I have the same problem with my set also. I think the pin is actually a little longer than the protector is. I'm going to see if I can find another joint protector maker to make some new sets that are long enough. Everything else is okay, right? The Lucasi joint protector set fits, right? I also sent you a hand towel and t-shirt with Zim's Rack logo!
Thanks again,

Zim

I have a Samsare that has a drilled j/p. The top of the radial pin is just flush with the top of the j.p. I have A CK cue with a radial j.p. too. The sukker is loooong with the j.p. The butt doesn't fit my Instroke case if the j.p. is inserted.
The radial pin is too long imo. There is no reason why the pilot is that long. Drilling or boing the j.p. should be alright. If the pin sticks out a little, the pin would still not get hurt in case you dropped the cue.
