Ow man :D

this must be the BEST joke i ever heared. HArd not to crack up when i got my fingers slapped by this poolhall owner.

ok, the story :) i met MArc here on this forum who lived close to me in brussels, and he asked me if i wanted to play some pool a poolhall he goes to. Ofcourse i said yes. We played for some time 8ball and 9ball. At the end of the evening , after paying, i got a 'poollesson' from the guy.

First he starts to ask me how long i played pool, and said i shouldnt breake like that. First idea i had was, ok this guy knows alot about pool, and i know my 9ball break isnt the best one, i make a ball often, but i do still miss the wingball from times to times. so i thought he was just going to give me advice... then he started to say, u dont breake like that in pool, u have to do a soft breake, by hiting the cussion first and then go in the pack from behind at a slow pace... i was like  wtf, is this guy for real or? am i missing something. ME and marc tried to explain him, 14-1 uses soft brakes, but DEFENETLY not in 8 or 9ball, and DEFENETLY not from behind the pack... this would be a fault asu have to hit the 1 ball first wich is in front... so i was very confused  and let him talk. Then he said we should stop breaking like we did, as our brake makes holes in the carpet, it makes the ball fly everywhere over the table, claiming we where luck we were on the last table and not sending balls on other tables (not 1 ball during the hole night fly off the table , as we both have a very slow breake. 10-15 mph would already be much if we could hit it). i saw 2 balls flying of other non pool playing people , just guys and there gf playing, but anyway.

then he claims other people who dont know about pool, look at me, and they will start breaking in front and hard to, making everyone destroying his table... (even people who never played pool at a D level, breake hard in front...) i didnt know what to say, i was so : Is this a joke? so he said, wait ill show. we get to the table, and u see the line from where im used to brake. I said to him, this is not a hole on your carpet, this is chalk falling on the table when i brake, a brush and it would be gone (ofc he had never heared of a brush im sure..). Then he claims the long trail to the pack are destroyed carpet, i tell him thats not possible, as when i breake, the ball is not roling but flying untill it hits the 1ball in full center. He starts smyling; AHA U SEE u make the ball fly!!! and u hit so hard u destroy my balls... then it was hard for me not the start laughing. Ok a breake cue ( i have a J/Jwith a phenloc tip makes a snap sound when i breake, but that sound doesnt mean im breaking his balls or his table. Then he starts saying my white balls i making holes in the carpet. I try to explain him that the curve of a cb, CANT make a hole, only the tip of a cue from players who cant play. A cb CANT make a hole, and he points to the big black spot on the headstring, trying to show me the hole.. im like.. this man on drugs or anything. well we both tried to explain him he's telling nonsense, but well the guy is a moron , he told us we wouldnt be welcome to play anymore if we would breake like we use too. (i wonder how he would react if he saw a top pro player with a closed bridge, a shaft that would bend ALOT, ALOT of draw ( i just use head spot, and center ball hit breake and a open bridge so my cue doesnt bend at all) and a 25mph breake...) This must be the most STUPID poolhall owner ive EVER seen, im sure he never used a stick in his life, and well just had to share this, as i think its hilarious AND a shame a guy like that owns a poolhall.

I loved the way he asked me how long i was playing, kinda in a laughing way, OW man , u dont know anything about pool... ow did i mention they use those thick heavy cloths just to be sure they wouldnt have to replace more then once every 2 years. He last claim was, if u would breake like u do now, and come play once in a while, ill have to change the cloth u make holes in every 2 months.

:p man this was SO funny, i still cant believe the **** this guys said during my finger slapping. He just seemed SO dumb, i thought i was on candid camera and really didnt know what to answer him so funny it was.

ps: made my FIRST 9ball breake EVER, and ive been playing pool for years for fun, and since august in national competition level... Couldnt believe i never made one before.

He sounds like a tight azz to me! I would have been trying so hard to hold back from busting out laughing!!! You should have said thanks for the lessons now lets play for money!

exactly :) just funny how someone like that got the job... Most ignorant polhall owner ive ever seen. Ah well; another story to tell to my grandchildren later.

... and then people say I AM, silly solly :p i think i just found the silly master!!.

Solly,

How's the pool club setup going? I think that this is NOT the poolhall owner you want to deal with.:D

Terry

idd not terry, to bad cuz it was a nice place, and they have a 1st division snooker club with some greath players, but this is just NOT what i want. Ive u wonder why there is no club in brussel yet, this is one of the main reasons.

STUPID owners
or
CRAPPY tables
or
Dangourous mafia clubs
etc..
no 9ft tables AT all (at least not that i know off)

about the pool club, well ive been talking to a good friend i met on a training day, and who has been giving me good advice, and he is right on one thing...
If id start a club, it would be alot of work for me , it would be greath for brussel players, but bad for my own game. till now i beat consistently any player in brussels, so if we would start a club, i could learn others alot, and i love helping and teaching things to people, but i wouldnt have a player of my level or above to teach me anything. And im at a level where i need a top player to learn me more advanced things. He adviced me to first find a national top 10 player to train with and teach me, and play for one of the best clubs in belgium first.

dont get me wrong, I still would LOVE to start a club, and maybe even a poolhall.. how things are now in brussel it is just one big shame, and instead of just bringing people down, i got the attitude of; if u think u could do bettter, then do it. but thats very long terms, my gf has a very succesfull catering/barr service, and it might be an option, to start a poolhall in some years. Even if we wouldnt make profit (as i would only alow good players to play on the top quality 9ft tables, there are more then enough poolhalls for ballbangers. brussel wont need another one of those, it would just be one more crappy place. but a REAL good poolhall would be the first one.. my managment/financial opinion), as long as we are breake even (ofcourse, earning money would be cool, but not a nescecity), we would still have the catering service to get the $. but well for now it just is a dream, and i think i will folow his advice, and first get my own game up. maybe selfish on short terms, but well... i always want to be the best i can get, and i know i can get better. im only at 60% of my topgame.

Yeah, I was wondering myself if you might be getting in over your head with the club idea. It's a good idea, I'm just not so sure that right now is the time to get involved in something like this.
