Home Pool Tables

I have been asked so many times why I never had a table
at home. They always think if you can shoot good, that
you HAVE TO HAVE a table at home.

I always told them that you don't make money at home,
you make it out in the Pool rooms. But, that is not entirely
true, I have known some guys with home tables that take
the game home and play for money matchups.

But, I have found that even if they do, it does not sustain itself
over the long haul. Players get wary of playing on a home table
where the owner seems to win all the time, or they just want to
play on a neutral table.

Sooner or later, I notice several home tables not being used much,
they become more decoration than anything.

How do you feel about this if you have a table at home. Does it
get used enough, or does it sit idle most of the time? Do you use
it to warm up with before going to a Pool room? or before a tournament?

Are you really getting your money's worth?

I got guys at work that come over and lose 20 or 50 every now and then. The Japanese are the most fun.

I could not imagine a player who would not want a table in their house if there was any way they could wangle it. It is great to not have to practice at the pool room especially if you are doing drills or something that has people watching and asking questions. Pool can be practiced as a solitary game even when preparing for competition, there is nothing like walking into the pool room knowing you are in deal stroke. Not to mention just getting up in the middle of the night when you can't sleep and quietly hitting some balls around, I often do my best thinking at the pool table. There is nothing like having your own table even if it gets used for a place to wrap packages or something as much as for playing pool. Just writing this makes me want to go hit a few balls and I think I will.

Practice time is the best @ home

I have had a table since i was 18. I love to practice alone in the lonley silence of my home. Its just not the same at the pool room when you have every novice coming over asking wh you have the balls set up like that. Why do you shoot that shot over and over. Why does your cue ball have spots on it. And then theres the element of your friends and opponents not knowing you have a table and practice 3 hours a day. Thats another reason i enjoyed it so much. If i was busy at work and didnt show at the tournay for a month or so and was in dead stroke, i would always see alot of head scratchin goin on. I never really had any big money matches on my home table but its great for a friendly ring game.

Just some of my thoughts. I now do not have my table and i miss it, and so does my game.

I agree completely. I think that anyone who is interested in raising their game another level should look into getting their own table.

home table

Had a home table growing up until I was about 19. 14.1 was the money game and I was pretty well known locally as a solid player. Moved out and had to pay to practice. This became an issue as prices went up. Quit practicing at about $3.00 an hour (it's now $8 to $15/hour). My game went away. Just played for fun after that, which is a contradiction in terms I guess because after a few years it wasn't any fun 'cause I sucked.

Got a home table three years ago (closed in the garage). I shoot all the time. Lots of practice and drills. The garage is detached from the house so no *****ing about any noise no matter what time it is. Heat and a/c, TV, and stereo. No video games, no 10 simultaneously broadcast ball games, no gang bangers, no waiting for room so you can take your next shot. I love it. My game's getting back in shape and I've got a place to put my cues, a hobby which my wife doesn't understand...........perfect!

I still go out and play for a little money with friends with much better results. All I can say is that a home table and your own space to put it in is the best!

Huge money saver!

I had my table for 3 yaers now and my average practice time is 2 hours a day. If I would go to a pool house it would cost me an average of $4.00 an hour which would be $5.840 in 2 years. On top of that I'd spent lots of money for gas which is really high right now + some food, drinks, etc. This is the way I look at this.

More than that. I play every night that I sleep in my own bed.

It saves money in table time, plus the ease of use factor. I can play for an hour, take a break to do something, and play again without the having to leave the pool hall.

I think it is the best way to practice. It does get kind of lonely, but you can then go to the pool hall and be social there. Plus it makes it easier to play around my schedule and I also don't reak of smoke when I get done.

It's the only way to fly. :D
