homemade cue tip removing jig

I had this idea for removing the remnants of the tip from the ferrule without rounding off the ferrule.
Take a block of wood and put a hole in it slightly bigger than the ferrule size. Attach wheels to the block of wood so its like a little car. The cue stick shaft goes through the hole in the block of wood and hangs down vertically like the cuestick shaft is driving the car.

You tape sand paper to a block of wood or other large hard object. You drag the car back and forth along the sandpaper with the custick hanging down through the hole and it drags along the sandpaper. The car stabalizes the shaft so it cannot tilt and can only move back and forth. A clamp could be on top of the block of wood to further stabalize the shaft or you could stabalize it more by holding it with your hand. You would move this kinda like using a sanding block.

I also thought about doing this without the wheels. I haven't yet tried putting this together but would like some thought, ideas, or comments about this idea. Or any other ideas how to prepare a ferrule for a tip using hand tools for someone that doesn't have money for specialized tools.

that is kinda neat, i had alot of cheap cues from wally world, for everybody to play with at the house one time, when i started playing pool. And the tips always come off easy, so i use to use a heat gun to take off the ferrule or tips to replace them, was very easy, probably not the best way to do it, but it was fast. how bout buying a cue top sander?

personally, i spend around 15 mins with an exacto knife to slowly shave off the remaining tip. i would have the tip of the knife in the center and then rotate the shaft with having the knife at a cutting angle, shaving only a thin layer at a time. with that method, i have yet to cut into the ferrule but the top was flat that retipping was fine.
