House cue conversion

I was given an old house cue w tight grain. Want to make a shaft out of this for another cue I have. Would drilling a small hole 3/16th's or so approx 6" to 8" deep in the end of this shaft help with deflection in any way?? Don't want to core it. Just drill the hole and leave hollow. Or should I just leave well enuf alone and keep it solid.

Not sure what your original diamiter is, but you might be better off retapering it down a quarter or half a mm with a conical taper. I guess though that would depend if you like the size it already is. As to drilling a hole, a few shafts offer that so best to talk to an actual cuemaker about that.

Thanks for the info!!👍🏻
