how about this Precision Tapping Aid?

It looks as though it would work the same as a live center butted up against a tap handle. My "T" handled starretts have small countersunk holes in the top so you can put a center up against it to help hold it straight.
 
I bought this item yesterday....

this is very easy to thread in low power...

If you do not have enought power to thread... you can use this one...

Looks like a piloted tap handle to Me. Atleast that's what I think they call them. Should be able to mount in a drill chuck.
 
Make sure your tailstock is set-up properly on your lathe. By that I mean, cut a piece of steel between centers, about 10 inches long (without moving the tool in or out from the material.) Measure the diameter of the rod at the headstock end and at the tailstock end. If they are different, then your tailstock is offset and material is being tapered. Correct the position by half of the difference in the taper. Only once this has been set can you even begin to drill and tap holes close to the center of the cue. Make sure you do this before using your new tool.

Why not just put your tap in the tail stock chuck and tap away.Use your JOG switch for ease of taping. Or just turn your lathe on and off. You will get this method down with ease after a few pieces have been taped. . Use scrap dowels, to get it down pat..Hanger my man, hanger.

because my lathe is low power , so can not tap easily

use this machine,you can thread very nice thread in low power...

What do you mean, [low power]?????

Maybe you mean, slow turning or not enough power [tork] to tap?

Please explain.


Medium speed for tapping is what you need. Just fast enough not to tear the wood and mess up the threads.

I use CueSmith lathe II , a small lathe...

because my lathe can not use tap into wood
(the wood will move , or machine will stop when insert tap into wood)

so you can use your hand to circumrotate wood , but you can not circumrotate　tap

use this tapping aid ,you can circumrotate your tap, so the thread will very
nice
