How did you learn the game?

My good buddy Dave Lauer of Emerald city cue repair runs sundays night tourneys at Daverthumps, that is about 2 miles away from my place. I go there whenver I get the time, some good players show up there, and some good local cue makers too. I have fared well at that tourney.

I get over the the BP whenever I can, great room there, one of my favorites in town but it can be a little dead there. If I ever own my own room (someday) I would like it to pretty similar to the BP in ambience and size, but I promote more to bring in the local tourney circuit players.

Yeah I knew Jon when he worked at Dr. Cue's. I have only been to BP once since he put the bar in. Was easier and closer for me to go to Dr. Cues. What was the cuemakers name...like Dave Jones or something? The guy I am thinking of made the Ebony/ivory/turquoise cue for Tommy Atkins (sp?). He does make a nice cue...think I looked at someones Cocobolo/curly maple wrapless cue when I was there also made by that guy. beautiful.

Davey Jones comes into Daverthumps quite frequently. He does make a fantastic cue, and most of the local top players in Seattle are starting to play with them.

Jon at BP is a nice guy, We have spoken quite a bit, I am going to display a few Bluds in his showcases pretty soon.
Next time you get in there, ask him to see his Smithsonian edition Bender cue...... WOW!!!!

Yeah I'll try to stop in and see him next time I am in town...probably a few weeks. Go play on tight table 8.

My friends and I primarily quit going cause of all of the kids and loud country music being played...stupid Lynnwoodians ...no offense LOL. He started it being closed after 9 to under age people...is it still the same way?

Yes, closed to under-agers after 9pm. I don' recall hearing any horrible country tunes in there each time I have been, so I think it must have changed for the better.

If you get up this way and have some time, shoot me a PM prior to your trip, maybe we can hook for up for a few racks and brews.

Yeah we would stay until 3-4 in the morning before the bar was in and there would be highschoolers and younger running around the poolhall. Couldn't understand where they came from and why they weren't home sleeping or getting ready for school. Some groups of 10 would throw in 5 dollars in country, all the same ones that you have heard over the years....every Garth Brooks CD imaginable...ick. SO I'd go balance it out with Metallica, Van Halen, or new hard bands.

But yeah I'll shoot you a PM when I get into town and we'll hit a few.

So as a student at UW did you play at Dante's alot? Boy there is some nice scenery of the female variety in there at times.

Ahhh I've been in Dantes over a dozen times, lots of hotties. Sorority gals go there for the $3 long islands and some nights they have $3-$4 pitchers if I remember right. Go there with my friends and they want me to hustle people, I tell them to play..I usually didn't. The one time I did a guy came in where we were playing doubles. The guy chose a random guy for a partner and got next game. He ran them all but 1 then it was my turn and I cleared the table. Same thing happened next game after my partner missed and his partner missed, I ran the table. He got pissed, called his friends to come play me. Once they got there he left mad...his friend said he does that because he is the better of the three of them and gets mad when he loses. So I played his friends and beat them about 4 games and left. I usually tried not to play for anything other than pitchers, most of the frat guys playing pool were in blackout drunk stage and might land a cue over my head. Less to say my liver suffered at the university bars due to pool. LOL

I played in the tourneys at Goldies on 45th all of the time and did very well there. Won 9-ball 9 straight weeks and 8-ball 7 straight weeks at one point. Noone knew I was making killing because it was a different player in the finals every night and noone else stuck around for the finals since it lasted until 1:30AM. Then I had to be up at 5:30. Gawd.
