HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS???

Good. So now you have to reprogram yourself because it's not realistic to aim at spots beyond the object ball on a regular basis during a match. You need to figure out a way to change your reaction to that. You may surprise yourself too, because this reaction may extend to other shots as well. If you fix your reaction, you may have succeeded in fixing problems with several different shots.
Thanks fran
your advice is much appreciated 👍😀

Grip pressure can change the mechanics of the stroke. IMO a light grip is essential for straight in shots.

That's a good point. Anxiety causes tension and tension causes the player to grab the cue, often during the stroking process. This unconscious grab or tightening of the grip can cause twisting or a change in stroke timing.

Not just straight ins but any shot can benefit. Asserting manual control just amplifies the human error window. Looser grips can work because the player need only point in the right direction and bring the cue up to the estimated speed. How the individual gets this to work is part of the drill of learning.
