How do you feel about the handicapping system in pool

I just wondered what others though on this.

I am sure many know what I am talking about but for those that don't here is what I am talking about. In a Leauge I am about to enter there is a handicapping system in place. Each player is given a handicap based on their skill ranging from 1 to 9, 9 being the best 1 being the worst. what this means is that in order for a person to win a mach against someone they have to win a number of games equal to their handicap. So someone with a 5 handicap has to win 5 games to win the match.

I can understand why they do this so they can get players some what of an equal chance however which I agree with however I dont really like this particular way of doing it for tournament. This is good for a leauge format where you are playing one match at each meet but I dont like this for a tournament set up.

If in a big tournament at the end of the year wher you have to win say 6 matches to be champ this would mean that a 9 handicap would have to win 54 games to be champ. I think that is too much. I also like the excitement of the fact all it takes is one bad game and your out a 9 could easily have a bad game (we all do) and let a 6 slip by.

What do you think?

i dont like handicaps... i play vs better players like i do play vs weaker players and i learn in every match... mostly when i get blasted by some better player who runs on a mistake 4 or 5 9ball racks and i just can watch (we normally play winner break when just "playing", and alternate in league).

what we do to get newcomers a chance is to play 2on2 scottish double, a newcomer with a stronger player. explaining the patterns, how to play, safe options... far better way than handycap.

thats just my opinion but even i did learn some pool when i was forced to rack for the better players during whole nights
