How is the pool scene in Marietta GA?

I am curious if any of you are from Marietta (or the Atlanta area), and know how the pool scene is in Marietta?

Are there many strong players there, and many weekly tournaments (and not talking about weekly leagues)?

Thanks for any info about the pool scene in Marietta.

Marietta Billiard club i.e. Johnny's place, has weekend tournaments, and i think you can find action there.

Marrietta Billiard Club is owned by Johnny Archer and Kim Davenport, and run by Tommy Najar, a rookie pro. Nice place overall... good players, and they have weekly Friday and Sunday tournaments... a few money players as well. All 9ft tables... Half are GC's

Cues Billiards on the border of Marietta/Kennesaw is also a nice room. Owned by Terry Stewart. Almost always a big money game of 1 hole going on, and various 9 ball races. They have 2 "pro" type tables (1 brand new triple shimmed Diamond, and one triple shimmed GC). Then they have 12? 9 foot tables, and 10 8 footers. The easiest way to get a "game" here is to go in and ask for Terry, Frank Q, Jason Lyons, or Richard Wojo. You can also look up Richard Wojo at Ozone Billiards here in town... He works part time and can always get you in touch with some money. Weekly Saturday 9 ball tourneys... well run, and decent players. Ask for Bobby or Stacy Todd

Mr Cues 2 is a little bit away from Marietta (about 20 minutes).... But always good top money players there.

Hope this helps.

I echo The Captain, but Kim is not involved at MBC anymore. The place has great tables! Also, Cues Billiards is there (not Mr Cue's 2, which is further away). Several great places in Kennesaw, less than 10 minutes away too.

there is a weekly 9 ball tournament at cues on satudays but you need to sign up by 4 pm and can go as late as 3 or 4am............if you want action on a daily basis then the best place to go is Kennesaw billiards just off I 75N and wade green rd...turn left (becomes Cherokee st) and go about 1 mile on the left in a strip shopping center. lots of 1 hole played but always action day and night....GC recovered about 3 months ago and as you go in go to table on the far right next to the wall and that is the shimmed table and where a lot of $$$ games are played. food is good both here and cues......at cues free pool with lunch and I think that is true for Kennesaw billiards but ck on that.

Thanks a lot for all of the great info. Sounds like a great pool scene in the area. Hopefully never dead on any night of the week.

I don't think it matters much for him, theirs action all over Louisville and weekly tournaments, and I've never seen him in either.
I really don't understand this thread I've played all over Louisville and southern Indiana and never seen him out. Sorry Justin not trying to be rude just how I see it.

What is the big deal with me asking about the pool scene in Marietta GA, or any other city? Yeah, it is true that I have not gotten into the Louisville pool scene since moving here. It is not that I have not wanted to (I really have), but I have lived in a bad location of town (since I moved here about a year ago), and without a car, it has been hard to get places that require me to take multiple buses to get to. Marietta is a much smaller city, so it would be much easier for me to get into the pool scene if I lived there. I know that Louisville has a good pool scene. I know there are tournaments just about every night of the week down town at Bank Shot, and out in the Fern Creek area (where I think I would actually really love to live). So, if I could find a place to live out in Fern Creek, or much closer to the Down town area of Louisville, then I could get into the pool scene. I would be shooting every night of the week if I lived down in Fern Creek. I really like Louisville Billiards Club (down in Fern Creek), and would be there every night if I lived in Fern Creek. Nothing against the pool scene in Louisville (which I imagine is great), but I am ready to get out of here, and thought Marietta might be a nice place to relocate to. So that is why I asked about the pool scene in Marietta. Trust me, I am not in the local pool scene (as you felt the need to point out), but I am dreaming about it every day, and wishing that I could get in it. Louisville is just too big for a person with no car though, and the bus system here is a nightmare (in my opinion).

I have lived in Atlanta much of my life and love it here. You will too, beyond the pool scene. Problem is, Atlanta is huuuuge and spread out. The public transportation is almost non existent on the Marietta side, as the trains don't run there. But the new Braves stadium opens in Marietta in 2017, so that may change things. Anyway, we'd love to have you...come on down and drop a note when you get here.

As others have stated, lots of tables in Marietta / Kennesaw area of ATL. Mostly all nine footers.

MBC; Cues; Kennesaw Billiards

Across town on the NE side is Mr Cues 2. Maybe 30 minutes with no traffic / hour or more in rush hour!

Just came in from 3 hours of shooting at Cues 2. No fewer than 4 people asking for action. I was lucky to get to play for fun with local legend, Groundhog Godwin. Anyways, Mr. Cues 2 is always awesome, whether you want to gamble or not. The have one triple shimmed 9' Diamond that's a monster!

Car

Im guessing Posting While intoxicated (PWI) The OP might have something different.

The best players in and around Louisville don't have a car hell they don't even have a license. Also Truman putting on a big bank tournament Nov. 28th at bank shot first place will pay out around two grand hope to c u their. Is this enough time to find a ride? Hell I'll give u a ride if you want.

Unless you get a place within walking distance to one of the poolrooms or get some transportation I don't think you will find yourself very active in the Marietta pool scene either. The tournaments have mostly started going with extreme handicaps and take forever to finish them. Some players have to go to 11 or 12 and it makes it takes all night. I used to play many of the tournaments, but since they take so long to play them I have not been playing much the last couple of years. I am not into the gambling scene so the Marietta pool rooms have very little draw for me anymore.

Yeah, that has always been my problem. Could never find a place in a really good location that I like (like near a nice pool room). I think Marietta would be good for me though. It is not very big. I lived in Evansville Indiana for a few years, and since it was not all that big of a city, I was able to get into the pool scene, and shoot in all the tournaments. And if I got stranded, it would only cost me $10 to $15 for a taxi home. In Louisville, you really need to either live in the down town area, the Fern Creek area, or the St. Mathews area (if you do not have a car, and want to get into the pool scene). If I got stranded in Fern Creek or down town, then it would be $20 to $30 for a taxi home. I think I would like Marietta. Looks like a nice low crime place, with a few really nice pool halls. Sounds like a really great pool scene too.

Marietta

If you are planning to move to the big ATL, I thought you might want this to make sure and get your bearings straight. Posted by a radio station on social media, I thought it was pretty funny and should piss off most everyone at the same time...
